Synopsis:

Tom Cruise ignites the screen in this runaway smash hit that 'holds you on the edge of your seat before blasting you out of it.' (Howard Rosenberg, Los Angeles Times). Cruise stars as Ethan Hunt, a secret agent framed for the deaths of his espionage team. Fleeing from government assassins, breaking into the CIA's most impenetrable vault, clinging to the roof of a speeding bullet train, Hunt races like a burning fuse to stay one step ahead of his pursuers... and draw one step closer to discovering the shocking truth.

Editor's Note:
As the original adaptation of the eponymous legendary TV series, "Mission: Impossible" broke all previous box-office records when it came out in 1996, immediately establishing its cult status. 34 years old at the time and riding high on the success of "Interview With The Vampire", Tom Cruise, whose production company debuted with this movie, performed almost all stunts himself, including the aquarium explosion scene and the final showdown on the roof of a high-speed train. Add to the mix stunning French actress Emmanuelle Beart, her fellow countryman Jean Reno, De Palma's unique visual style and signature point-of-view sequences, the mythical theme song reworked by U2, tongue-in-cheek humour, double-crossings and treachery, for a wholly satisfying action-packed experience.
